   The Sport

The sport of Waterskiing is a global sport by any standard. With Federations in approximately 90 Countries and an estimated 30,000,000 active participants, the appeal is truly universal.

Unfortunately Waterskiing is not a mainstream sport and is not easily offered as a school or college sport in most countries around the world. This and the relatively high cost of skiing has limited its growth. It has meant that as well as being talented, a Professional Waterskier has to work extremely hard to support his career.

Apart from hectic competition calendars in most Countries there have been many Competitive Waterski Tours over the years. At this time the main tour is the Waterski World Cup series run by the International Waterski Federation (IWSF). This brings the very best athletes in the World to as many markets as possible each year. To date these have included France, Northern Ireland, Britain, Russia, Qatar, China and Singapore. Each Stop is televised, reports and photos are distributed to 16,000 Media contacts in 160 countries and new downtown locations are required each year. New locations in India, South East Asia, the USA, Canada and the Middle East are under examination.
